Adidas is one of the largest sports apparel and equipment companies in the world. They have worldwide fame and recognition will never be forgotten. However, they are not the only sports company out there.
So, how does Adidas strive to stay on top?
With social media. However, being on social media alone won’t help them. Adidas has got to be at the top of their game in everything they do online. So let me share some of their secrets so you know how Adidas will be wiping out the competition on social media, maybe even for years to come. The top three things that Adidas is doing on Instagram that are making them better are:
1. Cater to Everyone, Young and Old
Instagram is mainly populated by Millennial’s and Generation Z users. However, there is a small audience of older generations we are on Instagram. Hubspot’s article “45 Essential Social Media Marketing Statistics for 2020” conducted a study and found that 50% of boomers are on some form of social media. Adidas recognizes that they do have older customers, and that these customers may follow them on Instagram. Adidas makes sure that they post pictures of older athletes sporting their gear, giving brand representation across all age groups

2. Follow The Rule of Thirds
Another good practice the brand follows is the Rule of Thirds. This rule, according to Hootsuite’s article “14 Social Media Best Practices for 2019”, is that one-third of their posts should promote their business, one-third of their posts should be ideas from influencers, and one-third of their posts should be posts about personal stories. Adidas’ Instagram follows this rule by advertising their products, sharing pictures and stories about some of the athletes that sponsor their gear, and also telling heartwarming/motivating stories about individual’s who use their gear as well.
3. Define Yourself, Define Your Theme

When you go onto Adidas’ Instagram page, you a greeted by darker color tones and pictures that in some way or another resemble each other. It’s simplistic, but so elegant and appealing all at the same time. Sprout Social’s “Five Social Media Best Practices Every Marketer Must Follow” advises that popular social media pages should have a pattern they follow. Their example was Target, and how it showed off bright and summary colors. Adidas is more focused on being on your grind, sweat, determination, everything that encompasses an athletic mentality. Their dark tones spread across each and every one of their posts sets their theme fantastically.
Putting It All Into Practice
It can be hard for companies to follow all of the rules of social media in order to make the most out of it. However, Adidas’ Instagram page has found the formula to success, a success which has brought them 25.4 million followers. Adidas is excelling in this field, so competitors beware. Before you know it, Adidas will have blown right past you in the competition to be the best.
Take a look at Adidas’ Instagram, and let me know what you think! Are there any posts they have up that you like? Are there any that you dislike, and why? Leave me a comment and let me know below!
